NCAA Football Preview – Texas Christian University @ Minnesota Golden Gophers

Texas Christian University Horned Frogs @ Minnesota Golden Gophers

With the return of the NFL preseason over the last month or so, Football season gets well underway this evening as we anticipate the return of College Football! As ever, the opening week features a week of packed schedules, and that’s especially the case tonight. The second game we’ll be taking a look at is the TCU Horned Frogs as they travel to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers.

We believe the Horned Frogs will be in fine form and should clear the -16.5 line on offer at 17/20 with 888 Sport. If you ‘Treble the Odds’ on a £10 stake you could win £55.50. Click here or the banner below to sign up!

The TCU Horned Frogs may be considered one of the surprise teams of the 2014 season after amassing a spectacular 12-1 record and the joint Big 12 winners with the Baylor Bears, who were the only team to defeat them all season. Because of the tie breaker, they controversially missed out on the inaugural College Football Playoffs to the Bears. They’ll be seeking to right those wrongs this season as they’ve retained a lot of their high powered offence. They have the privilege of having Trevone Boykin under center tonight who is likely the best Quarterback in College Football right now. He managed great numbers last season, putting up 3,901 yards, 33 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions, completing 61.2% of his passes. Aaron Green will be leading the running attack this season who put up over 900 yards and 9 touchdowns last season. The receiving corp of Josh Doctson, Kolby Listenbee and Deante Gray combined for over 2,200 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2014.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers had a relatively successful season going 8-5 overall and coming fourth in the Big Ten. They made Minneapolis a torrid place to play last season, losing only one game there, that being by a single touchdown to the eventual national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Mitch Leidner returns at QB this season who will seek to build on his 2014 campaign when he showed shades of quality, throwing 1,798 yards, 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions for a 51.5% completion rate. Minnesota retain a lot of their skill players on the back of an average 2014, and they will be added to with a mediocre recruiting class.

These two teams have only played twice in their history, with the second time coming last season after a 40 year break. TCU came out on top at home in a three touchdown plus win. The tables have turned this season as the game takes place in Minneapolis, and which as aforementioned, the TCF stadium was a fortress last year. TCU have sometimes started sloppy which has lost out on the spread, but I really think that TCU has one of the most dynamic and well-rounded teams in the country this season. Minnesota took a hit across the board and their recruiting class didn’t fill the holes. With just over a two touchdown spread, I like the TCU Horned Frogs to win by at least 16.5 points, thus making a statement to the rest of College Football.
