Chile on Course For Copa America Final

Chile 1 – 0 Uruguay Video Match Highlights

Chile cemented their place in the semi-finals with a narrow 1-0 victory against Uruguay. Both teams enjoyed relative success at last years World Cup as they progressed past the group phase, with Chile beating Spain and Uruguay beating Italy (and England). The game was extremely tense, and despite Chile having the home support, the cluster of Uruguayan fans made their voices known and as the game carried on late into the second half, it was hard to see when the stalemate would be broken.

Chile didn’t fancy leaving it to the lottery of the penalty shootout (no extra time in Copa America) so they rampantly started attacking the Uruguay goal. Uruguay by this point were down to 10 men after Edison Cavani got sent off shortly after the 2nd half started. As Chile began piling men in the box, the break finally came. A high cross forced Muslera to punch the ball where¬†Valdivia was eagerly waiting. He sacrificed the shot to lay it off to the better placed Isla, who’s crisp low drive flew into the goal and sent Chile into the semi-finals. Match highlights below.
