World Cup Cricket Preview

The World Cup has been fairly predictable so far. Whilst I fancy Australia to go the whole way, New Zealand have got off to a good start and will look to further their chances with a win over England tonight. England were poor against Australia, especially in the bowling department where they allowed Australia to hit 105 runs off the final 10 overs, with Glenn Maxwell making 66 off just 40 balls.

England look in disarray in all honesty, and I can’t see a focused New Zealand offering them any mercy. England would have to do something miraculous and I just can’t see them being able to turn it around so quickly, but the patriot in me wishes they would.

Pakistan are clear favourites for the game, but they let themselves down by losing to India in a match most people expected them to win. Pakistan can be beyond infuriating, they crumble like dry shortbread. A huge lead can be enough to send them into meltdown it seems and they are the one team you would be nervous about re-backing in a winning position. West Indies haven’t found their rhythm either. They succumbed to defeat against Ireland, despite Ireland needing a staggering 305 runs to win. The West Indies clearly have quality but suffer from the same unpredictability as Pakistan. The strong performances of Sohail Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, and the decent displays from Ahmed Shehzad and Haris Sohail will give Pakistan fans some extra belief.
