Man City vs Barcelona – “Kun” vs “The Atomic Flea”

Man City vs Barcelona – “Kun” vs “The Atomic Flea”

Man City vs Barcelona Preview

Tonights matchup is easily the most eagerly anticipated game of the year. The two teams met last year in the last 16 and Barcelona brushed Manchester City aside with a 3-1 aggregate win. Pellegrini was suspended for the second leg and two matches of this years group stages after he felt compelled to comment on the first leg refereeing of Jonas Eriksson, who awarded a red card and a penalty after Martin Demichelis took an opponent down in the box. We believe this game is destined for high intensity and some cards in the mix, but we are looking at the resurgence of Lionel “The Atomic Flea” Messi and Sergio “Kun” Aguero.

Lionel Messi was top of the transfer rumour mill in January. A dip in Barcelona performances and a reported feud between himself and Luis Enrique was threatening to tear the club apart; with the current star of the club using his leverage against the legendary Luis Enrique. In a swift change of events, football director Andoni Zubizarreta was sacked and his assistant, Barcelona legend Carles Puyol, also resigned. Luis Enrique kept the hot-seat and put Barcelona on a run that has seen them beat Atletico Madrid in the league and the cup during an eleven game winning streak that ended with a 1-0 league loss to Malaga on Saturday.

Kun Aguero has had his campaign blighted by intermittent injuries, but unlike this time last year, Aguero is fit to start the first leg and will be looking to make the same impression he did in his last Champions League match when he scored a hat-trick against Bayern Munich which put City into the final 16. That type of performance makes you wonder how Aguero hasn’t won the Golden Boot, but his endless injuries have hampered his progression as one of the most consistent goal-scorers in the world, so which of these two magnificent mini strikers will be stealing the headlines tomorrow?
